We're visiting friends and were looking for "real Japanese".. looked all over Yelp, and we wanted more than the fusion-sushi places that are everywhere.. reading reviews and we saw this place.. so glad that we tried it! Perfect atmosphere walking through the door.. friendly and happy greeting and immediate seating and service..I had sukiyaki and tempura.. haven't seen sukiyaki on a menu for a long time, and it was perfect! I could go on and on.. our service was very fast and friendly and the food was exactly as it should be.. we were there for lunch on a Tuesday just as they opened, and already it was getting busy..we were very surprised at how inexpensive our meal was..I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I read dated reviews about how their customer service is not up to par; I just want everyone to know that their service is actually wonderful. They're attentive and care about their customers, that was made clear by the frequent check in's and water/tea refreshments. They were very welcoming immediately as I walked in. It's a mom and pop restaurant. The food was delicious and I will be back. The interior was a plus.

Hidden Gem. Warm and welcoming experience. The sushi was amazing - so fresh and flavorful. We enjoyed the karaage, super sushi deluxe and curry udon, and it was an amazing choice. Service was a bit slow, but understandable as there were only two servers and the restaurant was packed! Really recommend if you want quality sushi. Their bento boxes for lunch are amazing as well. The tempura was spot on!

My parents have been coming here for 26 years and I've been coming since I was a little kid and the food has always been really yummy and great quality. It's a cute little spot tucked behind Safeway and the waitresses are so sweet and provide great service. My favorites are the nabeyaki udon, beef teriyaki, and any of the bentos, but anything you get here will be good.

Ikenohana is a very cool Japanese spot in Beaverton. The food is decent and it is priced very well. The staff is very friendly and are actually Japanese. It's rare to find a Japanese restaurant in Portland that is owned and operated by Japanese people so I thought this was a cool aspect of this restaurant. The interior decor is pretty dated but it is nice and clean. The service times were pretty long so that left a bit to be desired.

For this 1/2 Japanese woman, I say it's the best Japanese restaurant around! Chicken katsu is made with breast meat. Tonkatsu is made with pork loin. My mom, who was born and raised in Japan, and 100% Japanese, likes their nabeyaki udon. My husband and son like their sashimi. Daughter likes their curry. This restaurant is always packed - both lunch and dinner. You might miss this little place in the Safeway plaza near Taco Bell and Dotty's. Don't be fooled by the mediocre outside because when you go in, you'll feel like you've stepped into an authentic place complete with japanese decor. Service is so-so and can be a little slow. They're not rude or anything, just don't seem to have any pep to their step. Have patience, your food will be worth the wait. For reference, I am adding a picture of their current hours (both google and yelp are wrong). Oh, they have a *delicious* saba mackerel lunch and dinner entree which I often get so I don't stink up my kitchen at home cooking for myself.

I did take outs but recently I dined in for the first in awhile. We were one of the first to get seats but the ordering still took forever. With two servers who are also a little older plus maybe fewer people making food, our meal took 2 hours and we had to reach out to them and stop them in the middle of serving. I'm sorry we did that but the line was also incredibly long so we felt bad for waiting or staying longer. Aside from that, let's talk about the food! I got the tonkatsu lunch bento for $13. First of all, the price was very reasonable, other Japanese restaurants in the area would have the price start at $16 or so. Their fried things were very good in the past and they still ARE! Flaky, light, no oily feeling, it was fried wonderfully. The tempura shrimp did shrink a good amount but the shrimp and the veggies were fried wonderfully, too. The rice was lovely too, there is a difference! It also came with salad and miso soup and four california rolls and a little vinegar cucumber salad. We then ordered amae ebi (甘えエビ)sweet shrimp. They fry the head so it was very crunchy but sadly it was cold. The ebi was so sweet, juicy, and light. I loved it. If it wasn't almost $7, I would've ordered more servings haha. Anyways, I loved the meal though service was slow and because it was overwhelming for them, the service was not always nice.

FIRST: Hours are wrong. I have tried to submit a photo to Yelp to have them correct it but they seem to not care. The restaurant closes promptly in the 8 o'clock hour. OK with that out of the way. The restaurant feels like you've stepped into a new world. They have no windows open to the shopping plaza, so the rice paper and wood light fixtures, sushi bar, and overall vibe make you feel almost like you've stepped into a family living room. The same people appear to have run this restaurant for many years. They have two lines of business - a fully featured Japanese menu, including daily specials then also a sushi menu that you use a pen and piece of paper provided at each table to order a number of rolls from. My dining companion usually orders off the regular menu and I usually order sushi. The sushi is OK, it doesn't "WOW!" me but it has always filled me up and been tasty, especially at the prices they charge. My partner's full dinner feels like a real bargain coming with a surimi salad (cucumbers, rice noodles, rice vinegar, sesame seed) and miso soup along with the main entree. This place is worth a try if you're in the mood for a family run Japanese restaurant with consistency over the years. Not much changes here, they aren't chasing trends, but the place has many repeat customers as noted here. I cannot speak to authenticity as I am not very knowledgeable about Japanese food.
